MEG Maximus

Hi All

Had 2 great games of MEG Maximus in the Tournament we had in Palini on Saturday

First game was my Sassanids vs Maurician Byzantine (5 out of 12 participants had Byzantine lists)

I used a list which had Elephants, Cataphracts, Dailamy (5 TUG), and Cavalry with bows

My opponents had 4 Tugs of Skoutatous (LS), 3 Tugs of Byzantine cavalry, Some Moor ally and a few loose Tugs for use in terrain.

I was beaten in the terrain and scouting and had to deploy 100% of my army (happened in both games in the tournament).

I set up 1 Tug of Bow cav and an elephant on my left flank, the Dailamy Ally in the center and next to them the cataphracts the elephants and the rest of the bow cav, on the far right I had my Dailamy guard moving via some terrain.
My opponent sent a skoutatous Tug along with 2 Tugs of Byzantine cavalry on my left, his loose foot on some terrain in the center and then Skoutatous and the ally. He kept 1 skoutatos and 1 Byzantine cavalry in reserve.

I started by moving the Ally via the terrain in the center while on my left my cavalry advanced as to pin the enemy horsemen until the elephants could come. On the right the lack of good card on my enemies ally caused him to move slowly and I managed to get all my cavalry 1 BW from him.

Tunr 2

I charged on the right on his ally (1 Tug +3 Sugs horse all of them) and I managed to catch 1 Tug and 2 Sugs. In the center the Dailamy ally moved up and on the left he charged my cavalry and I countered with the elephants.

Turn 3

I turned my cavalry on the left as to be ready to flank the 2 Byzantine Tugs fighting the elephant. In the center the Dailamy turned 1 Tug to the left and 1 Tug to the right while 2 remained facing the enemy Loose foot (1 tug of bowmen + 1 Tug of Short spear). In the right my cavalry was pressing forward and only 1 Tug of Byzantine cavalry was in my way for the camp.

Turn 4

My cavalry on the left charged the rear of the cavalry that was fighting the elephants. In the center my enemy charged the side of one of my Dailamies with the bowmen while I charged both his loose foot with my other 2 Tugs. On the right the Dailamies that had turned charged a Tug of Skoutatous from the side while my Sup cataphracts charged from the front.

In the end of the turn I had lost 2 Tugs of elephants while my opponent had lost 4 Tugs and 2 Sugs

Turn 5

I only needed to kill of the bowmen which were fighting my Dailamy so I played safe, pulling back wherever I could

The game ended with me breaking my opponent but losing 3 Tugs in the game

MEG Maximus

Hi All

Had a very interesting game of MEG Maximus yesterday

My Sassanid Persian vs Maurician Byzantine

Both of us were using the armies for the first time so we were a bit hesitant

My force had Elephants, Cataphracts, Dailamy, and some horse archers

Oponent had Lancers (4 TUGs), Heavy foot, Moorish Ally (cav only) and some other loose foot.

My opponent (8 PBS) put sea on one flank and some rough terrain on the other side.
I won the scouting (2 cards for me vs 5 cards for the enemy).

After the setup it was obvious my Dailamy would attack via the rough terrain while my horse archers would try to soften up the enemy for the elephants and cataphracts to attack.
In a move I did not expect my opponent put the Moorish ally in the center (1 Tug+3 Sugs of Skilled jav).

Turn 1

I started moving via the terrain while my horses only came as close as they needed to shoot at the enemy foot.
My opponent had some bad luck and his ally was unreliable. But he moved his heavy foot as to pin my elephants and cataphracts.

Turn 2

My infantry continued moving while we both maneuvered as to get in place for charges.

Turn 3

Charges started

my horse archers charged on foot unit on the side
dailamys charged the enemy foot on the rough hill, some Dailamy charged the enemy foot in the open ground.

In the melee that followed we both took some hits but the enemy units on the rough had taken more loses.

Turn 4

Lancers charged my horse archers that had engaged the enemy foot while I charged the emy foot with another unit of horse archers. My elephants charged a unit of LS/IS (not a good idea)

The enemy units on the rough broke and my dailamy continued.

Turn 5

The battle was a mess I had killed of 3 enemy units from the 5 I needed.

In the fighting in the turn I lost my elephants while my units took the last 2 enemy units needed to win.
