MEG Pacto

Hi All

Today I had a very nice game of MEG Pacto

My Seleucid vs Cyrenian greek

My list was comprised of 3 Tugs of Pike, 2 Tugs long spear, 2 Tugs Cataphracts, 2 Tugs Bow, Thracians and Hillmen

My opponent had 6 Tugs of Long spear, 3 Tugs of Chariots, 2 Tugs of loose foot warriors, 1 Tug Xystophoroi

I was out scouted and had to start setting up first.

I the center close to my opponent table edge there was some rough ground the rest of the field was open.

I set up my Thracians and Hill men opposite to the terrain while right of them I had all my heavy foot. My Cataphracts would attempt to hold the sides.

My opponent put his warriors (ally) on the rough and next to them all his heavy foot while the cavalry (chariots mostly) would attempt to surround me from both sides.

I was attacker and started by moving my heavy foot up the board double time. My Thracians and Hill men moved for the rough ground supported by archers. My opponent waited with his heavy foot (smart) and moved his cavalry on the sides.

In round 2 his chariots charged my cataphracts (hoping in numbers) while one of my archers that i had moved up was charged by some Hoplites (not smart on my part).

Round 3 saw all of my heavy foot charge in while the cataphracts on one of my sides were wiped out. In the center I was giving better than I was taking.

In round 4 my opponent turned his chariots to come to my flanks and set up a charge. My other cataphract was killed after taking a chariot with him. While my opponents center started breaking (Pike Pike Pike).

Starting round 5 I needed to break 1 tug to get victory while my opponent needed 3. He killed the Hillemen the Thracians. We both needed 1 Tug and the final dice roll would be my Archers vs his Hoplites (one base left on each) I rolled a sword on my white dice while he rolled a skull on his dice and we both broke.

As usual Pacto is Quick (it took us 2 hrs with terrain set up) and bloody

As it was my opponent first solo game he commented (in Greek)

Q

MEG Maximus

Hi All

Today I had a very nice game of MEG Maximus

My Western Han vs Crusader states

My list was comprised of 7 Tugs of mixed foot (Polearms & Crossbows) and 4 Tugs of bow cavalry.

My opponent had 4 Tugs of Knights (1 was fanatic), 2 Tugs of spearmen, 3 Tugs of Crossbows

I managed to out scout him and he had to start setting up first.

On my right my opponent place the bulk of his foot (2 spearmen, 2 crossbows) while I had 4 Tugs of mixed foot
In the center 2 Tugs of Knights faced off against 3 Tugs of cavalry

On my left 3 Tugs of mixed foot and 1 cavalry was up against 2 Tugs of Knights and 1 Tug of crossbows

My plan was simple move up and start shooting while avoiding to come into contact.

First my right and center came within range and started the shooting. My opponents Knights started charging my cavalry but did not have any luck catching me.

After a few rounds of cat and mouse a big gap was created in the center as both our forces had come close to my table edge.

I turned one of my foot on the left while my opponent turned the Fanatic Knights as to threaten my sides.

A series of charges came next and by the end of the turn my opponent had lost 1 Tug of Knights.

After that the melee was bloody as my mixed foot was fighting Knights to its front, another was fighting Knights to its flank, the Knights were fighting cavalry to their flank. CHAOS

By the end of the battle I had lost 1 Tug for 4 Tugs that my opponent had lost (The Fanatics were holding on with 1 base).

A very suspenseful battle. All the participants enjoyed it.

My opponent was on a bit of a mismatch.

MEG Solo Pacto

Hi All

As we have entered the second lockdown in Greece I had  my second solo Pacto games.

My Nanzho faced off against my Free company (well crusaders figures actually).

The terrain was evenly placed with a woods on each side and a rough hill in the middle in the free company deployment area.

After scouting and set up the Nanzhao started off.

The Nanzhao plan was to attack on their left where 3 Tugs of Cataphracts and a Superior Nanzhao cavalry faced off against 1 superior knight, 1 Tug of crossbowmen, 2 Tugs of dismounted met at arms (one was superior). They also wanted to attack on the right where 3 superior Tugs of Long spear and 1 cavalry (unprotected) was up against 2 Tugs of dismounted men at arms and 1 Tug of Brigands. In the center 2 tugs of spearmen (1 Short spear + 1 long spear)  were locking at 2 tugs of longbow men on the hill.

The Battle was split up in 3 separate actions.

A. On the left the Nanzhao ally Cataphracts charged the enemy foot while the cavalry tried (in vain) to stop the knights. After 2 rounds of combat the crossbow men first and the men at arms secondly broke taking many Cataphracts with them, while the knights destroyed the Nanzhao cavalry.

B. In the center the Nanzhao foot pressed up the hill as to prevent the longbow men from assisting the two sides but they were shredded from the shooting, when they finally charged it was bad for them.

C. On the right the Nanzhao foot charged in while the cavalry was moving to flank charge the Free company units. The battle was intense and both sides didn't have good dice rolls, but in the end the cavalry arrived and helped the Nanzhao win.

A very nice battle and a good test as I am thinking of playing the Nanzhao in an Open tournament (COVID permitting)

MEG Pacto

                                                                          Hi All

As we have entered the second lock-down in Greece I have started my solo Pacto games again.

My Cyrenean Greeks faced off against my Romans.

Romans were attackers and after terrain was set up the Romans went first moving the Roman Foot up as fast as they could.

Thracians and Gaul's in the wood moved forward to face the Libyan warriors, while the legion moved its foot up as fast as possible.

The Roman cavalry was tasked with delaying the Cyrenean chariots.

On round 2 the chariots charged forward opposing the 3 Tugs of chariots were 2 Roman cavalry which skirmished and a Superior Legion that received the charge of one enemy Tug.

On round 3 the Roman foot charged in hitting the Hoplites and the wounds were flying in. After the melee the Romans had lost 3 Tugs (2 Gaul's and the Thracians) while the Greeks lost 3 Tugs as well (2 Hoplites and a chariot).

After that the Libyan allies tried to turn and hit the Romans from the side but bad cards did not help. On the other hand the Romans managed to turn some Tugs and hit the Hoplites from the side causing even more damage.

By turn 5 it was over. The Greeks lost 6 Tugs (the army) and the Romans had 4 lost Tugs.

It was fast (as Pacto is) and Fun (as all MEG variants are).

MEG Maximus

Hi All

Had a great game of MEG Maximus on Saturday vs Kostas (the wise)

My Cyrenean Greeks faced off against his Polemaic army

I had 6x Tugs of Hoplites, 2 Tugs of Chariots, 1 Tug of Xystophoroi, 1 Sug of Javelin men and a Libyan ally  with 1 Tug of Chariots and 2 Tugs of Warriors

My opponent (the canning fox) had 4 Tugs of pike (1 superior), 1 Tug of spearmen, 1 Tug of Thracians, 2 Tugs of elephants, 1 Tug of Xystophoroi and 2 Sugs

After terrain was set up (Secured flank with woods) I was out scouted and set up my first units.

As I was the attacker I started moving my units with a goal to attack from my left with the Xystophoroi (6 of them). My foot moved up as to keep the pike occupied.

The first charge came when a Tug of 2 elephants charged 2 Tugs of chariots.

I made a Hit with my shooting and then in the impact and melee that followed I broke the beasts (white & black dice for me vs the beasts).

The chariots chased and fell on one Tug of Pikes and one Tug of Spearmen (not good for me).

But as all of the units the enemy had in my left were in combat my Xystophoroi passed by and it was up to my opponents Xystophoroi to stop me. My 6 bases with general vs his 4 bases (all equal in stats).

On my right things were not great but manageable. Hoplites vs Pike, Chariots vs Pike, Hoplites vs elephants and warriors vs Thracians (this one was bad)

in fact at that point only 2 Tugs of hoplites were free of combat and started moving for my enemies sides in the center which was empty.

On the following Turn I lost all 6 of my Xystophoroi for 1 dead opponent. My opponent used his Xystopohoroi after that to hit me on the flank in some places, while I hit him on the flank on his superior pike.

But attrition was not in my favor and slowly my units were taking hits faster than my opponents. First went the warriors facing the Thracians.

After that I lost 2 Tugs of Hoplites and I crumbled.

A great game we both played very well and it was a tight game.

Kostas is always a great opponent and new things came up.
