FFT 3 AAR

FFT3 AAR

A few days back a friend and I played a FFT3 WWII points based game.

The game was set in 1944.

The opponents USSR vs Germans

We wanted to try out the point system so we both made our lists at 2500 pts and each one could pick whatever he wanted but no more than 3 air units.

I went with the USSR and picked 3 Brigades (Horde player) 1x Tank Brigade (fair), 1x RS Inf Brigade (fair), 1x Cav Brigade (with attached IS-2 battalion) (good) and 2 air units (rockets and cannons).
My opponent (Panzer Takis) picked 1x Hv Tank Battalion (9 Tiger tanks) (good) 1x Panzer Battalion (6 Panthers) (good) and 3 air units (cannons).

The game was an encounter and as we set up Panzer Takis was not very happy with his choice of units. We had 3 Obj (2 towns and a road junction) all along the center line of the table.

My plan was simple use one brigade to get each Obj and hold it. Panzer Takis still in shock from the army lists went for the central town with both battalions and hoped for the best.

The first 2 round went by fast as both opponents used strategic move to go for the Obj. but the USSR due to the fast moving units it had especially in the center (T-34s) got to all of the Obj first.

The Luftwaffe and Soviet air force were fighting over the battlefield and the first plane to arrive was a Soviet one that due to bad luck (die roll) dint hit any of the 3 Panthers in tis cannons path.

Panzer Takis was steadily advancing for the central town and I dicided to put the tank brigades SMG battalion in the town and start pull the T-34s back as they were no match for the Tigers and Panthers in open ground. I also started sending units from the two other Obj to support the center (Is-2 and some Inf)

The IS-2 started to hit the German tanks from the side while the 76mm & 45mm ATGs from the town also shot at them (the ATG were not a match for the Panzers heavy armor)

Finally Panzer Takis came close to the town and started firing at the inf inside. Unfortunately for him the Soviet infantry charged out and took out some tanks

By then the Panther battalion had taken casualties and had to make a test which it failed and Panzer Takis having lost 2 Tigers as well called the game.
I think Panzer Takis will start getting more infantry in his lists after this game.

DBA 2.2

DBA 2.2

Last Saturday we had a few games of DBA 2.2
The main opponents were the Early Samurai (4x CV, 5x AX, 3x BW) versus a variety of opponents (Medieval Vietnamese, Nan-chao).

First battle

Samurai vs Vietnamese

The Vietnamese (defender) decided to make a battle line with their AX,Wb,Bd4 and put the Big elephant with the general in the far side. The Samurai seeing what the Vietnamese had in mind set up as to stop them (Ax vs the Elephant) and Bws vs the Cv.

The two lines collided piece by piece as the PiPs did not help the two commanders.
The final result was 4-2 for the Vietnamese (thanks to the Elephant)

Second Battle
Samurai vs Nan-chao

The Samurais after losing to the elephant (Vietnamese) faced the PK of the Nan-chao. Again Samurai are attacker and after seeing the deployment of the enemy deploy accordingly. Against the Pk are Samurai Bw in two ranks as to hit them hard with shooting, the Cv is against the Nan-chao Cv, the samurai Ax are against the Nan-chao Bw and Ps.
The first few turns go by quick and then the Samurai Ax come in contact with the Nan-chao Ps+Bw with devastating results for the Ps+Bw.
At this point the game is 3-2 for the Samurai and then it happens the Nan-chao general is pined and killed in a 2-2 battle

More to come

FFT3 - WW2

Hi all
On Saturday we had a very interesting game of FFT3 WW2 at the club
It was set in June 1944 the night before D day and 3 Battalions of US Paras/Gliders are dropped behind the beaches in order to secure two villages on the main road to prevent reinforcements.
The Germans only had some Ost units in the area and had to prevent the US from taking the villages.

US Forces
1x Para Battalion (full) Excel
2x Glider Battalion (full) Excel
4x 105 Hw

German
2x Ost (USSR - Croats - Turks) Battalion (full) Fair
1x Kampfgruppe  Aveg (3x Sdkfz222, 9x Cav)

The Map

After the Germans set up the US start the first turn with the para drop

The German commander after getting up decides to attack the paras while they are still gathering their forces

He sends his Kampfgruppe (3x Sdkfz222 and 9x Cav) to attack while his Ost battalions dig in the towns

The paras after getting on the ground start advancing on the towns

But after a few minutes the German Kampfgruppe hits them in a wheat field in front of the town
The battle is fears but the superior training of the paras gives them the victory in the field

After taking care of the only good German unit the paras begin the attack on the two towns

Even though the Ost Battalions put up a fight they are outmatched and are rooted

In the end the US are victorious they have taken both towns and have rooted the Germans
The Germans managed to inflict many losses on the paras (two Glider battalions were under 50% strength but managed to pass the tests needed) but in the end the towns had been lost

The Syrians

The Syrian plan was simple split up the force in 3 groups and attack on all sides with 2 battalions each (3 players for Syrian side). The IDF side decided to hold one Mech inf Battalion on the center and right of the table and attack on the left with one Mech infantry battalion and on armor battalion.

The Right side of the table

The Syrians went first and started to pore in their forces T-55A tanks along with BTR-60 and BTR-50 APCs. After them came the IDF more defensively orientated the IDF started to move infantry in the towns and armor on the hill as to try and stop the onslaught that was coming.

The left side of the table

After the first few turns of maneuvering the IDF tanks opened fire (exploiting their longer range) this did not seem to stop the Syrians that even though taking loses continued on.
The Syrian armor finally came in range and fired back at the IDF tanks while some Sagger missiles from the infantry battalions also started to pore it in. While this was going on the artillery on both sides was trying to support the ground troops.

The Syrian infantry

On turn 6 the Syrian artillery managed to pick of 2 out of the 3 IDF AA guns and the Syrians were confident that their air force could come in and help take care of the IDF.

The IDF counter attack

The first Syrian MiG-21 came in the following round and attacked a hill on which six  Sherman (105mm) tanks were on the MiG used its Medium GP bombs (15) to hit 2 tanks taking one out and causing the other to become suppressed.

The Syrians after taking fire

the game continued on the same tempo when on turn 10 the IDF on the left began to attack (the Syrians had lost 2 battalions and were rushing reinforcements from the center). On the right the Syrians had come close to the right most town but dared not attack as the IDF infantry along with a jeep 106mm had taken defensive positions and was on over watch.

The IDF right most town

On the final round neither side had completed its Objective (to exit units from the enemy base line) so we counted loses and concluded it was a minor IDF victory.
