MEG Maximus (LNS vs 100YW English)

Hi All

We had a great game of MEG Maximus yesterday.
My Later northern Song faced off against 100 YW English with Burgundian ally.

I had my usual list with lots of mixed foot (PA / Crossbow), some cavalry with bow and 2 war wagons (first time I used them)

My opponent had lots of longbow men (experienced and skilled) some Burgundian knights and some men at arms

I lost the roll off and after we put the terrain I also lost the scouting.

Turn 1

I moved my foot line up the field while I held back on my left (the enemy skilled Pbow were facing me).

Turn 2

I moved into firing range with my foot line, while I maneuvered a bit on the left as to draw the enemy skilled bow.

Turn 3

I charged in with one of my cavalry vs skilled Pbow (hahaha) and failed to contact the enemy. We continued with the shooting.

I fired 21 white dice hitting 5 times, my opponent fired 15 white dice making 5 hits as well.

On the left we continued maneuvering and my war wagons were set up against some men at arms (not the best match up). While I moved my second cavalry to support the first one that failed to charge.

In the battle lines maneuvering continued.

Turn 4

I charged again with both cavalry, in the other fronts my enemy charged a unit of mixed foot that had taken hits and I used a second unit to intercept as to help them,

The shooting in the impact phase was good for both of us, I lost the wounded cavalry but my fresh one contacted with no problems. The pbow that charged and were in turn countercharged contacted both my units.

In the impact that followed some wound were scored.

In the movement were continued to maneuver our battle lines while the men at arms came close as to charge the war wagons and I moved a mixed unit to help them out.

Melee was even with some hits being scored on both sides.

Turn 5

The men at arms charged in and contacted war wagons and mixed foot opposite to them.

While one more Pbow unit charged a wounded mixed foot unit

War wagons and the mixed foot actually made a dent on the men at arms with the shooting causing 3 wounds.
The impact that followed was a bit in my favor and the men at arms were left one base from braking.

Maneuvering continued and in the melee that followed everything was lost for the Song

First the cavalry fighting the pbow broke

Secondly I could not make any hits on the men at arms but they broke the war wagons

And finally my 2 units that were fighting Pbow units also broke.

Moral tests that followed were not in my favor and I lost another group and game ended with the Song breaking while the English lost 1 unit in total (many were close to breaking)

A great battle that pushed both generals and armies to the limit.
We had countercharged, interception, lots of shooting, and the war wagons (I used them for the first time).

MEG Pacto

Hi All

We had our first MEG Pacto tournament last Saturday (10/07/21) in Patra.

The local wargame club (Don Kihot) of Patra organized the very successful event.

10 players (4 from Athens) took part, 8 played all there games and 2 played 1 game each.

I took part with my Syracuse Greek army (lots of hoplites).

First game was against Greko Bactrian (Pikes and lancers)

I lost the scouting and had to start deploying units first

When we finished the set up my hoplites and Galatians were up against Pikes and hoplites. I had my Numidian ally facing some Iranian lancers and some Greek Xystophoroi.

Turn 1

We both moved up our forces. I made sure my Numidians were in shooting range of the enemy horsemen.

Turn 2

The Bactrian cavalry on my right charged against the Numidians, I skirmished and shoot them but no contact was made.

We both continued moving our infantry lines up the field and next turn charges would happen.

Turn 3

The Bactrians charged in while I only charged with some Galatians on my flanks.

The Numiadians skirmished again and were not contacted.

The impact was with hits on both sides but fortunately I only lost one base.

In the movement I managed to turn some units on the flanks as to be ready for flank charges next round.

In the melee that followed we both took hits and we both lost a unit, the moral tests that followed were not eventful

Turn 4

I charged 2 units in the flanks, the Bactrian Cataphracts charged in at Hoplites (not a good plan) and the Numidian nobles received a charge from some lancers that had taken hits.

In the impact my opponent lost a few units and the moral tests that followed cost him another unit and the game.

I lost 3 units while I broke the Bactrians

A very nice game vs a great player, we had actually been talking on FB for some months but this was our first game close up.

MEG Maximus 28mm

Hi All

Second of my battles in the 28mm MEG Maximus tournament in Athens.

My Bahrein army faced off against 100 year war French

My opponent had 3 units of knights, some crossbow and longbow men and some foot troops.

Again I lost and was defender and I was out scouted. I opted to put all 3 of my cavalry units in flank march and set up my foot on the table.

Turn 1

I started moving my foot up the table, my opponent did the same as to get in shooting range.

Turn 2

I got the red card I needed to put the flank march in play and I informed my opponent from which side I would be coming in from the next round.

I used my shield cover and the shooting was mostly ineffective.

I moved (slowly due to the shield cover) while my opponent fell back with his shooting units. Some knights dismounted as to be ready to charge my foot.

He also turned a unit of average knights as to face the flank that would be coming in.

Turn 3

I got a second red card in my flank command so no problems

My flank came in, 2 units went for enemy units while the third went for the enemy camp.

My opponent charged some of my foot units with his foot units. The shooting units continued to shoot.

The impact and the melee were not conclusive and we stayed locked.

Turn 4

The knights charged one of my cavalry that came from the flank.

While I used the other to charge some foot from the side.

In the melee that followed units started to break from wounds on both sides.

Turn 5

I attacked the camp and made many hits

As most of my army was engaged I did not move much.

In the melee I managed to take the last hits needed on enemy units as to break the enemy army.
I managed to take the camp as well and the enemy army would have to take moral tests as well.

MEG Maximus 28mm

Hi All

Had a great 28mm tournament in Athens and played two great battles.

I used my Bahrein (1075 CE) army with lots of Long spear foot, some archers and Flexible cavalry.

First opponent was Galatian (Asia Minor) which had lots of short spear devastating charger foot, some cavalry and some loose foot with javelins

I was out scouted and had to set up 4 units, I also opted to send all 3 of my cavalry units on a flank march as the table was packed with heavy foot units.

Turn 1

My opponent started moving his foot up the table as to come in contact with my foot while he kept two units (cavalry and loose foot) in reserve on each side.

I moved the archers in some terrain as to take shoots at the enemy but not much else

My flank march general got his red card and I told my opponent the side I would be coming in from.

Turn 2

I got a second red card in my flank march general (my flexible cavalry could come in as a Tug and not only in skirmish formation)

My opponent charged along the battle line, the impact was in his favor (barely) as he had +3 (short spear + devastating charger) while I had +2 (long spear + integral shooter).

Hits were on both sides with me taking a bit more.

In the movement phase my opponent had some issues with his cards while I moved in my flank march using all 3 of my cards (2 red, 1 green) and now my cavalry was in a great position to start hitting the enemy units.

In the melee things were the same as

Turn 3

I charged with 2 of my cavalry units. One went against the enemy cavalry and the other hit the battle line that was fighting from the side.

In the impact the cavalry that hit the battle line broke them and charged on the next group.

With some helpful Moral test I managed to break 3 groups by the end of the melee

My opponent attempted to send some reserves he had to help out.

Turn 4

In the charge phase I charged with the unengaged cavalry and managed to engage my enemy’s cavalry in front of his camp.

As very few units were not engaged by now maneuvering was very minimal

In the melee that followed my opponent lost a further 3 units and I lost 2 units

Turn 5

I managed to get the last enemy unit needed to break the enemy

A very bloody battle and a very nicely painted army

As the enemy was all tribal and commanders were instinctive in some critical points of the battle that he needed to make some moves it did not help
