Pz 8

Pz 8

Hi all

We had another game of Pz 8 Divisional Modern this time.

We set up a game in 1985 W. German vs USSR
The Germans had 2 Pz Grenadier Brigades
1 Pz Brigade and the Divisional assets in a small task force

The USSR had 3 BTR Brigades
1 Tank Brigade and the Divisional assets in a small task force

We rolled and the Germans would defend the two villages on the map with the USSR attacking

The Germans went first and opted to defend one village with 1 PzGr Brigade and the other village with the task force while the second PzGr Brigade was stationed behind an hill as reserves the Pz Brigade was to start rolling to enter the table after turn 2

The USSR attacked on 3 lines.
2 BTR Brigades attacked the left village (defended by the task force)
1 BTR Brigade and the task force attacked the right village (defended by the PzGr Brigade)
While the tank Brigade was in the middle in reserve.

The USSR attack on the right was a decoy and after a few battles in and around the village the Soviets pulled back.
The fact that the German Pz Brigade came in to support the village also helped the Soviet commander to pull back.

On the left village the Soviets attacked with 2 BTR Brigades and 1 Tank Brigade
even the PzGr Brigade that came to help the task force in the town could not do much.

Finally the Soviets took the village on the left but that was not enough to win them the battle.

As always the rules were very nice and the battle went without a hitch.
Nick (my opponent) had a very good time and even though he is a fun o FFT 3 he enjoyed the low complexity of the set.

V&B campaign (Second AAR)

V&B

Hi all

A few weeks back we played the second game of our V&B campaign (dint have time to post it)
So here we go

The French are attacking the Prussians this time and having to pass a river to do so (xaxaxa)

The game started with the Prussians set up on the map and the French entering from one side and in different turns

By turn 3 the french had passed the mountains and are ready to assault the river via the two bridges

The battle was fierce both sides used musket fire and artillery to soften up the opponent before charging in

The French using their sharpshooters in front got an advantage with the saving throws

while more troops pored in

After a few rounds of charge and counter charge the first French units passed the river

The Prussian commander seeing he could not hold the French started pulling troops back as to save what could be saved

When the battle was over we followed the campaign rules for recovery of units and so on
All 3 of us had a good time playing the game
The outcome was very close to what I was expecting would happen in reality
The rules as always were great and easy to follow and we actually stop only once to check a rule

Pz8

Pz8

Hi all

I havent posted for a few weeks but Iv been playing games so Pz8
I first got the rules a few years back and have been playing Balkan wars with them but my friend Pz Takis wanted us to try the WW2 divisional rules again so I put together a small ( 4 Divisions) game

Its 1944 the Allies are in France and the Germans are trying to stop them from taking a towns.

The Germans have 1 Infantry Division (Poor) mostly eastern ex prisoners (6 Inf battalions and 3 Art battalions) with which they are holding the town and crossroads.

One Armored German Division (2 Pz battalions, 3 Pz Grenadier battalions & 2 Art battalions) will be rolling to see if it enters as to reinforce them.

The US on the other hand have 2 Armored Divisions (4 Tank battalions, 3 Mech inf battalions & 2 Art battalions each) entering from the other edge of the map

In the first turns the US move closer to the town and get in positions to attack

The German Artillery tries to slow the US down but 3 1s are never good

On turn 4 the US start their assault on the town and battles start all around

I used small die to keep track of each bases hits

The US forces using their supirior numbers are having no problem clearing the town and the crossroads

but then the German reinforcements arrive and attack the US northern forces

The battle in the north is fierce but the German Armor is Elite (+1 to all combat and moral rolls) and it starts to get an advantage just in time as the town is almost out of defenders

A few turn after that Both commander start pulling their forces back as to regroup and repair
We both had lots of fun with the game. The US forces had the upper hand until the German armor arrived.

The rules are very nice and produce an realistic outcome.
We will be using them again in the future

V&B campaign (First AAR)

V&B

My self and two M8 started a campaign using V&B it is set on the war of the fourth coalition.
I will be playing the French, Alex will be the Prussian general and Takis will be playing Prussia's allies (Mostly Russia)

After talking about it we opted to use Blucher's campaign system.
We set the max at 10000 pts (V&B) and each side has 2-5 counters on the map representing the points.

After Maneuvering a bit the first action was upon us one Prussian counter met a French one and a battle was ready to start.

The French army was 2000 pts strong comprising of
1st Corps
1x Hv Art
2 Inf divisions each with 3 Inf Regiments (4-5,NE,PT,DG)

2nd Corps
1x Hv Art
2 Inf divisions each with 3 Inf Regiments (4-5,NE,PT,DG)

3rd Corps
2 Cavalry divisions each with 1 Hussar regiment (2-5,light cav,may skirm) & 1 Hv Cavarly Regiment (2-6 Hv cac)
1 Inf division with 3 Inf Regiments (4-5,NE,PT,DG)

The Prussians army was also 2000 pts strong comprising of
1st Corps
2 Inf divisions each with 4 Inf Regiments + 1 Foot Art

2nd Corps
2 Inf divisions each with 4 Inf Regiments + 1 Dragoon Regiment

3rd Corps
1 Avaunt Guard division with 2 Light inf Battalions and 3 Hussar Regiments

We set up the teren as per Blucher campaign rules
The two villages are worth 2 VP each the two Hills are worth 1VP each and the crossroad is worth 1 VP.

The Prussian won the initiative and started first and the French followed.

It was evident from the start that both generals meant to hold the two villages and the main battle would be waged on the left of the French.

The French guns went on the hill and the Prussian guns on the other hill. The guns started firing while troops maneuvered below them.

On the Left of the French one French foot division and two cavalry divisions faced of against 2 Prussian foot divisions and the Avaunt guard while Prussian guns one the hill started to fire.

One the French right the Prussians moved forward as to pin the French forces in place.

The French left Corps commander (Calvary mostly) would have non of that he charged the Prussians with his Foot and Cavalry hoping to catch the Prussians of balance.

The Charge was not that successful as you can see from the disorder markers.

After the French attack that failed the Prussians moved forward as to press their advantage. But they had not calculated correctly.

As their foot moved forward the two French cavalry divisions charged in two Heavy and two Light regiments hit them as they were moving.

The Prussian divisions were exhausted and started pulling back from the hill.

The Prussian commander started to make a second defensive line in front of the village. Pulling troops back as to try and save them from the advancing French.

And he Finally makes the defensive line.

The French general had 5 VP and the Prussians were left with 2 VP (the village).
At this point we both decided to call of our troops as the campaign has a long way to go and we both had some casualties.
The final score was 5-2 for the French and we both had about 215 pts casualties.

Air War: C21

Air War: C21

Hi all

A few days back I got Air War: C21 (PDF version)
I had read very good things about the game so I got it
After reading it 2 times (all 25 pages of rules) I tried it out

I made a datasheet for the plains i was to use (Mig-17 vs A-4H) Arab Israeli war 1973

The A-4H was on a CAS mission armed with 2 AIM-9 and 4 big bombs
It was intercepted by a Mig-17
The Israeli pilot was rated as Average while the Arab was Poor

After a few turns of maneuvering the two planes were close and the action started

The Mig got a few shoots of first as the bombs made the A-4H heavy
I fired a Sustained burst (3 ammo) getting 2 extra d6 and got 2 hits on the A-4H
But that was but a scratch

The A-4H made a Barrel roll and Turn move and got on the Migs rear and fired with its guns Sustained burst again making 3 hits on the Mig

The A-4H opted to do a tailing move thus staying on the Migs rear
Finaly the Mig exited the table after the pilot could not shake of the A-4H

The game took us about 1 Hour it was very nice we all liked the special move cards which gave it a flavor
The rules are very well explained with lots of examples.
Even though we had AAM on the A-4H we dint use them and used only the guns of the aircraft.
The A-4H had a very big advantage with the 2 sidewinders and the better gun but the 4 Big booms helped equalize things.
We are going to play again next week with more aircraft.
