FFT 3

FFT 3

Hi all this saturday we played a game of FFT 3
The setting was in Germany in 1985. The two adversaries were W. Germany vs USSR

the map

The W. Germans had:
1x Panzer Battalion with attached infantry company (AVG)
1x Jager Battalion on foot (SUP)
1x Jager Battalion on foot (SUP)
3x F-4F (with Bombs)
3x 20mm AAG

The USSR had:
1x Assault Para Battalion (Good)
1x Assault Para Battalion (Good)
1x Light Para Battalion (Good)
1x Light Para Battalion (Good)
1x BTR Battalion (Fair)
4x Su-20 (with Rockets)
3x 152mm Art
1x ZSU-23
1x SAM mobile

The Germans

We rolled and it was an encounter and the Germans went first.
My opponent (A veteran gamer) sent his Leopard 2A2s in the midle sported by a company of foot in APCs
while his 2 foot Battalions came on the sides as to block any attempts on my part.

The Leopards

I on the other hand had a great plan (which as always went to hell)

 The Assault Battalion

I opted to attack from the sides with my assault battalions in the center I put the BTR battalion (as to keep the Leopards occupied) and to para drop the two light battalions (this would be our second para drop using the rules)

The second Assault Battalion

My plan started well as my opponent did what I was expecting. Both our air forces started making their appearance and I actually managed to destroy a Leopard (I dint like those tanks as they had 13 front armor and B vs Heat ammo while my best AT weapon had 12 pen)

The Germans are coming !!!!!

I put what i could of the BTR battalion on a hill and hoped for the best as the German tanks came close. On the sides where I had hopes for victory my battalions set up to attack the German foot.

ZSU-23 vs infantry rocks

The German foot had 2 ATGM Milans per Battalion and as they were Superb the Milans got an extra shoot. This I had not counted on :(

The Milans are on the hill

Both of my attackes started off badly as the Milans hit hard on my units. But after the first shoots my ART and plains came in and helped out.

No more Milans :)

A fire fight started in both sides and both forces were close to braking when the paras came from above.

The paras after many many Q tests

The paras fell in and around the an enclosed field so had to take Q tests ( I actually passed them all).

The BTRs attack the Leopards

In the middle the situation was terrible for me so I opted to attack. In the end I lost the lot of them but the Leopards did nothing all game.

The German foot

In the end I managed to get the 2 light para battalions out of the board. I broke one Jager battalion but lost 3 battalions (2 assault battalions and the BTR battalion).

The game was one of the most enjoyable in some time. Both of us had lots of fun.
The para drop as is in the rules is very good and both time we used it we had no problems.
The Superb troops the German had was very very tough the Q test were on 2+ and even my Good paras (with BMDs) had lots of problems.

Tales of Blades and Heroes

Another weekend passed and we continued our adventure.

we have passed the fort and had reached the tomb o a great Dwarf warrior that have been killed by one of his friend because of a woman (who said that RPG adventures dont come from true life)

Our heroes finally got in the tomb and found the ghost of the warrior.
He told them his story and asked them to help him rest. Our heroes opted to help him.
And finally succeed.
Before the ghost left he gave them instruction to the Tomb of one of his companions where great treasure was hidden.

The group found the Tomb and entered only to find it guarded by some Skeletons.
A great battle started

Even though it seemed that our Heroes would be killed.

They finally prevailed.
The treasure was truly great (over 6000 coins and some magical teams)

All the PC enjoyed the game.
And after having played quit a few games now we have started to see many more options the PC could get.

Till next time

Starmada Fleet ops

Starmada Fleet Ops

During the past month we had a couple of games of Starmada Fleet ops and Starmada Admiralty.

As usual we used the hex grid for all the games.

The miniatures we used are soft plastic from US toys (75 ship in the bag).

All the games we played run smoothly and non took over 2 1/2 hrs.
Our youngest player was 11 years old and he actually beat me in his first game.

The game mechanism is very easy to get and all of us had no problems.
The small amount of record keeping in fleet ops was a point all player made and made the game more enjoyable.
The order system was another point all players liked and found it give a good feel to the game.

I have now finished 4 fleets of about 18-19 ships each (Black, Silver, White, Red as their colors)
Hope soon to be able to post more AARs with miniatures

Tales of Blades and Heroes

Hi All

A few weeks now we have started a RPG quest using Tales of Blades and Heroes

Our heroes are in search o the resting place of a great Astrologist and have stumbled across a small outpost

The Fort with our Heroes inside

The Heroes lineup

The Barbarian fighting two Ork axemen on the ramparts

The Heroes enter the chamber of the Ork Boss, who is protected by 4 Ork spearmen

The Heroes inside on of the houses in hand to hand combat vs some Orks

The wizard and the Elf find a hidden stairway in one of the rooms leading to the dungeons

Dwarf vs Ogre (hahahaha who will win)

We love the rules.
They give a good feeling and are not overly complex.
The combat is not slow and the skills and attributes are very well balanced

FFT 3

FFT 3

Hi all and a happy new year

It has been a very fruitful month for us with lots of games.
My first report for the year.

We had a FFT 3 game 1985 USSR vs West Germany at 3000pts

the battlefield

I opted for a Marine regiment with 3 BTR battalions and a Tank battalion with T-55 (with missiles) I did not take any artillery only 3 planes.
My valiant opponent NICK took 2 battalions in APCs and a battalion of Leopards. He also took 3 planes and 2-3 helicopters with missiles.

I opted to attack the town to my left where my opponent had 1 battalion of infantry. I charged in with 3 battalions of BTR marines and attached tanks.

On my far right NICK made an advance with his other infantry battalion but infantry unsupported was not a much of an advance

Both of our air forces started entering the table taking shots at the others tanks and APCs
I had all my planes armed with rockets while NICK had GP bombs

NICKs choppers took out a few of my vehicles but it was not enough to do much.

when I finally got to the town I charged in and after a firefight I took it

 We both enjoyed the game
Nick was not very happy with his choppers but he had only opted to give each one only one missile pod which gave him 2 shots each (if I remember correctly)
His Good moral gave him a advantage over my fair troops but the numbers gave me victory in the end

Volley and Bayonet

Volley and Bayonet

Hi all we had our second game of V&B on Saturday.
French vs British at 2000pts each.

The French had about 8 small divisions
6 Infantry Divisions (mostly PT,NE) and 2 Dragoon Divisions

The British had 5 divisions
4 Infantry Divisions and 1 Cavalry Division

As you can see from the pic above the French started at full speed to come in contact with the British.
their plan was to attack the British head on using their cavalry on the right to threaten the forces in the village while all the French foot attacked the rest of the British.
The British plan was to use the village in their center as an anchor and attack for the side of the hill.

The French plan was working well as the British had wasted a full Division to guard the village.
The British commander was still confident his higher moral and training would beat off the French.

The two forces came to firing range and the fire fight started.
All the French foot had Dedicated guns apart from the Horse art in the Divisions so the extra die helped.
The two British Elite Brigades tried their best with charge after charge on the French but they were just to many.

At that point the French commander ordered one of his two Dragoon Divisions to leave the area close to the town and to circle around it and hit the British from the flank.

The British commander had not blocked the edge of the table (above pic)

and the French can passed behind the town (above pic)

Finally the French made a gap on the British line and started to exploit it (above pic)

At this point the British commander started withdrawing his forces for the battlefield.

Starmada Fleet ops

Starmada Fleet ops

Hi all

Few days back I got Starmada Fleet ops for my collection.
I printed the counters and with a few friends we gave the rules a try.
We found them very fast and very easy to learn.

We made two fleets 250 pts each from the fleet options in the rules.
On the one side we had the Imperial Fleet:
3x Valiant class DE
1x Concordant class CV
1x Belligerent class CL

On the other side was the Arcturan Fleet:
2x Hayabusa class DD
1x Raikou class BB
1x Izanagi class CCG

As you can see from the above pic the two fleets set up in the same manner.

The battle began with both fleets surging forth.

The Arcurians had a small advantage in range and started firing first.
But the terrible die roll dint help them.

Both fleets had weapons that gave many advantages and both had a large number of fighters.
So the heavily armored ships of the Arcturians came under fire from the Triple damage weapons of the imperials.

After about an hour of battle it was all over.
The badly damaged ships of the Imperials had driven off what remained of the Arcturian fleet.

We all had fun playing this game.
I have played Full Thrust for many years as well as Battlefleet Gothic and Babylon 5 and I have to say i was impressed with Fleet ops. So i went out and got Starmada X brigade as well.
